July 11 was recognised as Srebrenica Memorial Day by the European Parliament in 2009 to commemorate the events that happened between 11 and 22 of July 1995, when over 8000 Muslim men and boys were massacred by Bosnian Serbian soldiers in and around a small town called Srebrenica in Bosnia-Herzegovina where they had fled for safety. At the same time over 20,000 women and girls were raped. It was the worst atrocity on European soil since World War Two.
The UK charity Remembering Srebrenica has produced a lot of educational material aimed at ensuring that lessons are learned and such events are never repeated. Here is one of their films.
