Coventry Asylum & Refugee Action Group (CARAG)
WHO WE ARE
We are a community group made up of asylum seekers and refugees based in Coventry. The members of the group come from Africa, Asia, Middle east and as far as South America. The group is run by asylum seekers, refugees and volunteers from the local community. The group has a constitution and is governed by committee members who are part of the group. We have come together to share our experiences, support each other, and speak out for rights and dignity in the UK. We want to speak out about our experiences in the UK and try to improve things for ourselves and those who come after us. We want to achieve for asylum seekers the right to work, better treatment for refused asylum seekers and better treatment for all asylum seekers in the UK.
WHAT WE DO
We meet once a week to discuss issues asylum seekers face in UK asylum system. These issues may include accommodation problems, health care, legal aid or issues regarding education. Members of the group share experiences and advice to try and help each other and resolve these problems. The group is also a great place to meet and make new friends over a meal and refreshments.
We also regularly invite people or other organisations to come attend our meetings to share their views, ideas, help or advice.
Carag is also involved in a lot of campaigns, we attend protests/demonstrations with other organisations and always happy to attend and speak at events.
