On 12 March the United Nations Association Coventry Branch hosts a free, public debate in Coventry Council house on the important question of nuclear disarmament.
Almost all nations of the world adhere to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which aims to: prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology; to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy; and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament.
But only only 35 states have ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which prohibits the development, testing, production, stockpiling, stationing, transfer, use and threat of use of nuclear weapons.
Will those states which have nuclear weapons ever destroy them all? What are the benefits and the risks of doing so?
And what does the average citizen think about the issue?
Do the people of Britain want to spend over £5 billion on Trident and another £179 billion on the Dreadnought-class submarines to carry them?
This is your chance to have your say.
Seats are free but limited. Please book your place below.
