Ukrainian President Zelensky Addresses U.N. Security Council
On 6 April Ukrainian President Zelensky addressed the UN Security Council, accusing Russian troops of indiscriminately killing civilians “just for their pleasure” and questioning the mandate of the Security Council itself.
He described the massacres left by Russia’s retreat troops: entire families killed, people with their throats slashed, and women raped and killed in front of their children.
Zelensky said Russia’s actions were no different from those of a terror group, except that Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council.
“Where is the security that the Security Council needs to guarantee?” he asked. “It is not there though there is a Security Council.”
