The United Nations Association Coventry Branch Committee met in Coventry Council and welcomed a number of new members including Mohammed Aaqib who kindly volunteered to take on the role of Treasurer.

Discussion

Past and forthcoming activities

Shagufta led us through the financial report prepared by Philip who is Acting Treasurer.

We need a Treasurer. Training will be provided.

She also talked about the actions of the year so far and our plans for the future. See the agenda for details.

Human Rights in Action

Jean and Mohammed are very interested in this project and hope to be able to get engaged with its planning and delivery.

UNA Calendar

The committee were excited by the forthcoming activities including the idea of a calendar showing international days which could be sold to raise money.

Philip agreed to work on this and invite students to design images to be contained in the calendar.

Reaching Young People

We need to use Instagram and Snapchat rather than Facebook and Twitter.

We also need to be reaching out to local media eg BBC Coventry & Warwickshire and Coventry Observer & Telegraph.

Philip admitted he is not good at this type of activity.

We need a Communications Officer

CovCAN

The Committee thought this was important. Members of CovCAN and UNA Ambassadors need to reach out and give talks in churches, schools etc.

We need an Outreach Officer to organise these presentations

Forthcoming Meetings

Restorative Justice Planning Meeting

Date, time and venue to be fixed. It will probably be on the day the Restorative Justice Forum deliver presentations to Conservative Party Councillors in Coventry Council House.

Human Rights Planning meeting

19:00 to 20:30 5 September, Diamond Room 5, Coventry Council House.

AGM

18:00 – 20:00 on Thursday 23 Jan in Coventry Council House.

The meeting will be followed by a talk by a member of UN staff (to be arranged).
