In November 2020 the United Nations Association Coventry Branch (UNACov) ran the world’s first Young People’s Peace Essay Competition the winners of which were announced during Coventry Peace Festival.
The competition was organised at very short notice but nevertheless managed to attract entries from around the world.
Since then the competition was run in 2021 and 2022.
Over the years, judges have come from Coventry University’s Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations and Law School, the University of Warwick and the Bangladesh civil service. Judges are frequently impressed by the quality of the entries and consider the Peace Essay as a valuable activity in engaging young people in promoting peace.
UNACov will therefore run the competition again in 2021 which now has its own website at https://youngpeoplespeaceessay.org/
The competition is supported by a grant from Coventry Peace Festival.
