Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS)
Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS) is the UK’s only Women, Peace and Security civil society network. We are a membership organisation of 17 NGOs and experts in the field of development, human rights, humanitarian and peacebuilding.
We were founded to progress the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. Our role is to promote and hold the UK government to account on its international commitments to women in conflict areas worldwide.
On 28 April Josephine Roele from GAPS addressed the Warwick District UNA on the importance of women’s participation in social and political processes and of the achievements of feminist movements – e.g. for suffrage and political representation – in relation to gender equality, peacebuilding and conflict prevention. She explored the UK Government’s commitments to women’s rights in conflict on the international stage and linked this to the national context celebrating 100 years since some women gained the right to vote in Britain with the Representation of the People Act.
GAPS have made extensive analysis and commentary on the UK’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.
