Background Information

International Young Peoples Peace Essay Competition
This ran for the first time in 2020 and was very well received. The staff from Coventry University who judged the entries are very keen that the competition continues and grows in the coming years. For more information see the report on the 2020 competition.
TeleDebates
Due to COVID-19 we are currently organising most of our events as video conferences. Many of these take the form of debates on a particular topic. Recent topics have included nuclear disarmament and human trafficking.
Coventry Climate Action Network (CovCAN)
This is a network of people who want to promote action on climate change. We need help in managing the group and also in developing stories for the website covcan.uk.
Sustainable Development Forum
We are working with people from Coventry and Warwick universities to develop a forum in which people interested in the issues surrounding sustainable development can meet, share ideas and work on joint projects.
International Conversations
We are working on a number of projects aimed at enabling people from different countries, culture, religions and races to communicate with each other in order to promote international understanding and building peaceful relations. For example we have created the peaceandreconciliation.uk website.
Low Carbon Cookery Book
We have started work on producing a cookery book providing low-carbon recipes that will appeal to a wide audience and also showing how their carbon footprint compares to standard British food. We need people to check the accuracy of the carbon footprint calculator we have produced, to gather recipes (with photos), to assess their carbon footprints, to select them for taste, to produces pages containing the recipe, to edit the book and take part in the publishing process including design and marketing.
Climate Change and Mental Health Ambassadors
The link between climate change and mental health is important and increasingly recognised. Sometimes it is called eco-anxiety or climate anxiety. We are looking for people interested in Climate Change and its impact on Mental Health. We are planning to organise a workshop with the Mental Health Department from Coventry and Warwick University and students can get involved in the creation of the proposal as well as the organisation of the workshop. Volunteers can help in creating and conducting surveys in order to raise awareness on the issue. More information at https://covcan.uk/climate-emotion/ and https://covcan.uk/climate-anxiety-is-normal-and-healthy/.
Restorative Justice
The Coventry Restorative Justice Forum is currently seeking RJ Ambassadors who will help them promote knowledge and availability of restorative justice in schools, universities and among communities. For more information and how to apply see this page.
