Chair’s Report
2025 Impact Report United Nations Association Coventry by Estelle Marufu
Impact on War Presentation
- The presentation explained how war affects societies, including civilian harm, infrastructure destruction, and violations of international humanitarian law. It included analysis of war’s broader political and economic effects, referencing mechanisms like the International Criminal Court to illustrate accountability challenges.
Key outcomes:
✔ Increased awareness among students about how conflict shapes civilian life and global systems.
✔ Strengthened volunteer involvement in public education on peace and security matters.
Child Soldier Presentation
The Child Soldiers Presentation was a major activity in 2025.
- UNA Coventry developed and provided a structured child soldiers presentation resource for use in schools and other venues, enabling volunteers and partners to deliver it locally.
Key outcomes:
✔ Educated local audiences on serious human rights issues affecting young people in war zones.
✔ Provided teaching resources that can be reused in other educational settings.
Legal Aspects of UN Project (In Progress)
Podcast Project (In Progress)
- Volunteer team for producing podcasts, videos, and written reports is part of ongoing activities, especially under the Climate Change Team.
Key outcomes:
✔ Provided infrastructure and volunteer roles to support ongoing multimedia content production
Website Development Project
The UNACov Website Development initiative progressed throughout 2025:
- Volunteers were recruited and engaged to contribute to the unacov.uk site, adding news, articles, and updates relevant to UN issues and local activities.
- This has strengthened the branch’s communication capacity by regularly publishing UN-related news and educational content.
Key outcomes:
✔ Expanded online content to raise awareness of global issues locally.
✔ Created volunteer opportunities in digital media and web publishing.
Donald Trump Letter Contest
The Donald Trump Letter Competition 2025 was a creative public engagement project:
- UNA Coventry invited submissions of letters responding to Donald Trump’s 23 Sept 2025 UN General Assembly speech, with a £100 prize for the best entry.
- The competition ran with a closing date of 31 December 2025, with judging in January 2026 and plans to send the winning letter to Trump.
Key outcomes:
✔ Encouraged critical thinking and public participation in international affairs among writers and the broader community.
✔ Provided a platform for dialogue about UN priorities and rhetoric at the highest political levels.
Fix The World Website
UNA Coventry continues to engage local audiences with global issues via the FixTheWorld portal:
- The FixTheWorld platform is used to help the public take action on global problems and link SDG engagement in Coventry with education and advocacy.
Key outcomes:
✔ Promoted community involvement in sustainable development goals and global issue engagement.
✔ Integrated SDG awareness with local action channels.

Secretary’s Report
Volunteer Fairs Attended and Volunteers Recruited
10 February Volunteering Fair at Coventry University. Mainly Masters students attended. Philip Brown and Estelle Marufu attended and talked to visitors about UNA Coventry. As a result 8 students registered as volunteers on the UNACov.uk website.
On 14 November Philip attended Coventry University’s Volunteering Fair. As a result about 60 students registered.
On 28 November he attended a Volunteering / NGO/ Public Sector fair organised as part of the Warwick STAR Charity Summit at Warwick University. As a result another three students registered.
Volunteer Groups
Committee adopted Whatsapp as the main method of communicating with volunteers.

Presentations delivered
On 30 June 2025 two UNA Coventry volunteers, Nankur Pontip Ramdur and David Obasan, delivered presentations to students at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Coventry, dealing with the urgent global issue of child soldiers.
On 12 November volunteer Benazir Ulde delivered the same presentation at Coventry College.
On 5 December 2025, UNA Coventry volunteer Estelle Marufu delivered the presentation Impact of War on Communities at the same college.
