Winners of Intercultural Conversation Competition 2024
In November 2024, United Nations Association Coventry ran the first Intercultural Conversation Competition which offered prizes for the three best descriptions of what people learned from having a conversation with someone from a different culture, religion or nationality and exchange information about their backgrounds and cultures.
Why did we run this competition?
The basic function of the United Nations is to allow nations to talk instead of fighting. United Nations Association Coventry believes that the same applies to individuals.
In order to live peacefully with people from other countries, religions or cultures, we as individuals need to understand how their families and communities function. But we tend not to speak to such people. By talking to people from different cultures we can all acquire more understanding and so more tolerance of our differences.
United Nations Association Coventry therefore invited the people of Coventry to talk to someone from a different culture, religion or nationality and submit a report on what they had learned.
