UN Press Briefing on Sea-level rise
On 31 August a UN TV press briefing on the subject of sea-level rise was addressed by Navid Hanif, Assistant Secretary-General in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Steven Hill, Assistant Secretary-General in the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) and Bill Hare, Chief Executive Officer of Climate Analytics. A video of the broadcast is shown below.
Note that the video claims to be on the subject of the UN Secretary-General’s Sea-level Rise Report. We have been unable to identify a recent report on that subject. The only UN Secretary-General’s report we can find on sea level rise was “Challenges related to sea level rise and ways and approaches to address it” which was published on 22 May 2026. However it might be worth noting that UN Environment Programme published a report on 2 September entitled “Limiting Overshoot – Navigating exceedance of 1.5°C and pathways towards return“. But that did not concentrate on sea-level rise.
But in any case we think the following video is worth watching.
Note also that on 24 September 2026 the UN General Assembly will run a High-level Plenary Meeting to Address the Existential Threats Posed by Sea Level Rise.
