China’s human rights record under scrutiny at UN meeting
China’s human rights record has come under scrutiny at the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group Geneva. An unusually high number of more than 160 countries taking part in discussions, with each given just 45 seconds to speak. Aljazeera noted that a global split was evident during the meeting, saying that “According to reports, China lobbied non-Western countries for support ahead of the meeting, and many offered Beijing their backing.”
