Warwick District UN Association has invited the parliamentary candidates representing Kenilworth and Southam constituency in the General Election on 4 July to take part in a debate and answer questions from our members and supporters and the wider Kenilworth constituents relating to the many issues which are outlined below. This Debate will take place at The Kenilworth Centre, Youth Room Ground Floor on Monday 17th June from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
Questions will be invited from the floor covering international issues and these would be made known to the prospective Parliamentary Candidates prior to the meeting. This would give the Candidates an opportunity to “do their homework” on the questions and not be put on the spot during the debate.
Warwick District UNA would appreciate it if you are able to submit a question for debate to the Candidates and if possible let Gian Clare have your question as soon as possible and at the same time indicate if you are able to attend /participate in the debate in person. Please write to gianclareuna@gmail.com.
The Background
It is vital that political parties and individual candidates address the range of increasingly global issues that impact our day-to-day lives.
Wars, often arising from economic, territorial, religious, or political reasons, are leaving many countries war-torn, requiring decades for infrastructure and economic rebuilding. The devastating war situation in Gaza and Israel and Russia-Ukraine conflict beginning in 2022, exemplifies the complexities of modern warfare, including unexpected resistance, strategic and logistic challenges, and significant civilian impact. Today`s diversity of conflicts, from Myanmar’s long-standing civil war to the ongoing civil wars in Yemen and Sudan each with unique causes and consequences. The international community’s response to conflicts involves humanitarian aid, economic sanctions, and political actions, reflecting the complex nature of modern geopolitics. Surely the defining issues of our time.
In the midst of these crisis, people are looking to their leaders to get out of the current global “mess”. The message from the UN is that world leaders needs to take action now to address the worsening climate emergency, escalating conflicts, dramatic technological disruptions and a global cost-of-living crisis that is increasing hunger and poverty.
Here is your opportunity to put your question to our parliamentary candidates on these very important issues.
