On Saturday 25 October, Warwick District United Nations Association will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the coming into force of the UN Charter on 24 October 1945.
You are invited to register for a special social event to celebrate this important landmark in Leamington by emailing the Chair of UN Warwick District, gianclareuna@gmail.com as soon as possible.
The celebration will include a delicious spread of finger foods & non-alcoholic drinks and a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony with our Civic Dignitaries, the Chair of Leamington Spa Council, Councillor Naveen Tangri, and the Mayor of the Council, Councillor Ruggy Singh. There will also be photo opps & friendly socialising!
The event will take place in Leamington Baptist Church Hall: Chandos Street, Leamington Spa, CV32 4RN from 12:15 to 13:45.
The Charter is the founding document of the United Nations and had been signed on 26 June by representatives of the 50 countries attending the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco. Poland, which was not represented, signed it later and became one of the UN’s original 51 Member States.
The concept of international peace and security in the UN Charter began to develop with the ideas expressed in the Atlantic Charter in August 1941. But two months earlier, in London, a Declaration spoke of the need for global cooperation.
