The threat of biological weapons

Best-selling author Annie Jacobsen has published a new book “Biological War: A Scenario” which explains how a lab accident can lead to a bio-attack, a global pandemic, and the collapse of human society.

According to a Pentagon document she has seen detailing a threat-spectrum of weapons of mass destruction, biological weapons are second only in seriousness to nuclear weapons. Furthermore a global infection could be released following an accident in a laboratory. And what is more, unlike nuclear weapons, it would not be limited to certain countries. It could spread globally.

The book is based on dozens of interviews with experts with high-level political, governmental, medical, and military responsibility. According to her, it would be only a matter of days from such a global infection before the infrastructure built to handle this gravest of situations would be in a battle for human existence.

The result would be mass death, total societal breakdown, widespread insurrection, anarchy, and a plague-ravaged wasteland that no longer resembles modern civilization. In other words: dystopia.
