5 June is World Environment Day. It is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world.
The celebration has become one of the world’s most far-reaching platforms in support of environmental causes. Tens of millions of people have joined, both virtually and in person, to take part in activities, events, and all kinds of initiatives around the world.
#WorldEnvironmentDay 2026 focuses on climate change—on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back. UNEP’s global campaign calls on all of us to step in #NowForClimate, and steer a world already in motion. See how you can get involved.
A Global Call for Climate Action
Climate change is no longer a future threat: it is reshaping life across the planet.
Yet another force is also gaining momentum: collective action. Communities are restoring ecosystems. Young people are driving change. Clean energy is transforming cities and homes. Sustainable solutions are already building a different future.
World Environment Day 2026 reminds us that we still have time to change course. The Earth is sending us signals. The question is: what signal are we going to send in return?
Join the global campaign by UN Environment and act #ForClimateNow. Because protecting the planet also means protecting our health, our communities, and our future.
Time is running out, and nature is in emergency mode. To keep global warming below 1.5°C this century, we must halve annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Without action, exposure to air pollution beyond safe guidelines will increase by 50 per cent within the decade and plastic waste flowing into aquatic ecosystems will nearly triple by 2040.
We need urgent action to address these pressing issues.
Climate Dance Challenge
This World Environment Day is launching a global climate dance challenge and it needs YOU at the center of it. Not as a spectator but as a signal-maker.
Make your voice heard – through dance – and together we can send a clear and unified signal to world leaders: protect our planet, for this generation and the next.
