Israel pauses mass starvation of Gaza
Airdrops
On 25 July 2025 the Times of Israel reported that Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) saying that Israel will soon permit Jordan and the United Arab Emirates to resume airdropping humanitarian supplies to Gaza.
As we previously reported, in 2024 when Israel closed its border crossings, the UK government and other countries airdropped thousands of tonnes of aid for Gaza civilians, but the programme was soon terminated because the people needed far more than could feasibly delivered by airdrop. Also some airdropped crates were blown over the sea as they parachuted down, and Palestinians drowned trying to get to them. Other people were killed or injured by crates falling from the sky when parachutes failed.
On 26 July Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, wrote on X: airdrops will not reverse the deepening starvation. They are expensive, inefficient & can even kill starving civilians. It is a distraction & screensmoke.
Safe ground passage of humanitarian aid
On 27 July the Israeli government website published COGAT announcement that:
As part of our ongoing effort to increase the scale of humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip and In accordance with directives from the political echelon, a local tactical pause in military activity will take place for humanitarian purposes from 10:00 to 20:00, starting today (Sunday, 27 July 2025).
The pause will begin in the areas where the IDF is not operating: Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City, every day until further notice.
This decision was coordinated with the United Nations and international organizations following discussions regarding the matter.
Designated secure routes will also be in place permanently from 06:00 to 23:00 to enable the safe passage of UN and humanitarian aid organization convoys delivering and distributing food and medicine to the population across the Gaza Strip.
The IDF will continue to support humanitarian efforts alongside ongoing maneuvering and offensive operations against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip, in order to protect Israeli civilians. The IDF is prepared to expand the scale of this activity as required.
According to the Guardian, Health officials at Al-Awda and Al-Aqsa hospitals in central Gaza said Israeli firing killed at least 17 people waiting for aid trucks. Israel’s military said it fired warning shots at suspects endangering troops and was unaware of any casualties.
But Israel still denies accusations of starvation in Gaza
On 26 July the Israeli government website published a Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement that:
Tomorrow morning (Sunday, 27 July 2025), Israel will apply a “humanitarian pause” in civilian centers and in humanitarian corridors to enable the distribution of aid supply. Israel has continued to facilitate the entry of aid trucks into the Gaza strip.
Unfortunately, the UN has failed so far to collect and distribute the large amount of aid trucks that are stored in designated areas inside of the Gaza strip.
Now it is expected of the UN to collect and distribute the large quantities of aid, without any further delay or excuses.
Israel rejects the false accusations of “starvation” propaganda initiated by Hamas which manipulates pictures of children suffering from terminal diseases. It is shameful.
