Warwick District UNA will hold a meeting on 14 March to discuss Waste, Recycling and Saving Energy.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are key to the UN’s programme for a sustainable future. Reducing waste and recycling form an important part of these goals.
Caroline Faulkner, Waste Projects Officer with Warwickshire County Council Waste Management will speak on what we can and cannot recycle and how to reduce the amount of waste we create. She will give an overview of the responsibilities local authorities have in relation to waste and recycling and also what our responsibilities are as householders and individuals.
Warwick District Council has agreed on Climate Emergency Action Programme to reduce the council`s carbon emissions to zero in five years and lead further climate change efforts across the region. Key actions are:
- Helping to reduce household energy bills and fuel poverty by improving energy efficiency in houses
- Helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality by working with WCC to develop a Transport Strategy and
- Helping to improve the natural green environment through tree planting and creating new habitat areas.
The District Council will meet soon to debate the creation of a ring-fenced Climate Action Fund and how best to fund it.
Richard Milward, Community Outreach Officer at Act On Energy – a non-profit organisation and registered environmental charity based in Warwickshire, will be speaking on energy efficiency. How can we manage our energy consumption more effectively at home and stay warm and save money?
Act on Energy encourage energy conservation by providing free and impartial advice to householders and small businesses in the West Midlands.
There will be Ploughman`s Lunch plus tea/coffee for £3.50 per person.
