The United Nations Association Coventry Branch are searching for a young person who is highly committed to human rights and is driven, creative, and well-organized. You will represent UNA Coventry on the Human Rights in Action programme organised by the World Federation of United Nations Associations. You will receive 4 days of training in the UN Palais des Nations, Geneva in August 2019 that will empower you to lead a human rights project for 6 months when you return to Coventry.
The training includes intensive tutoring, discussions with key human rights actors and provides instructions on how to follow up on education activities to be carried out with the support of the UNA Coventry during the 6 months after the training. A very valuable part of the programme is the opportunity to meet and work with around 20 other trainees from around the world.
By the end of the training, you will :
– be able to explain the international human rights system, its instruments and mechanisms;
– be able to identify opportunities for civil society to interact with the UN human rights mechanisms;
– demonstrate an understanding of basic skills in project cycle management;
– be able to develop your own human rights awareness raising or education project to be implemented in Coventry in collaboration with Coventry UNA.
After the initial training you will be required to complete a 6 months project in conjunction with United Nations Associations Coventry under the supervision of World Federation of United Nations Associations.
We are looking for candidates aged between 18 and 28 on 27 August 2019.
You should complete the application form below no later than 27 January 2019.
In February 2019 a selection panel will use the applicants answers to shortlist the best candidates who will be called to demonstrate they are committed to human rights and are driven, creative, and well-organized by doing a 3 minute pitch to the panel and answering questions.
Once selected the successful candidate will need to work with UNA Coventry to help raise £700 to cover the cost of the training. After the training they will work with us on a human rights project in Coventry between August 2019 and February 2020.
