Humanitarian Insight
Humanitarian Insight is a web-based portal maintained by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) that connects the data and information generated through coordination processes to the managers and leaders who rely on it for decision-making. Using Humanitarian InSight, anyone can, for the first-time, access publicly available information on needs, response, funding and gaps through one innovative and intuitive online portal. Humanitarian InSight will help strengthen our commitment to greater transparency and accountability, and increasingly allow us to showcase collective achievements in coordinated humanitarian response.
The website shows the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO). This is the most authoritative and comprehensive assessment of global humanitarian needs and presents coordinated and prioritized plans for responding to those needs. By providing the most accurate assessment of needs and how best to meet them, the GHO helps to: mobilize resources; ensure that the resources are targeted towards the people, sectors and areas that need them the most; and promote efficiency so that the resources are used as effectively as possible.
In 2019, nearly 132 million people in 42 countries around the world will need humanitarian assistance, including protection. The 2019 GHO outlines plans to assist 93.6 million of the most vulnerable people. Funding requirements for 2019 amount to $21.9 billion. This figure does not include the financial requirements for Syria, which will be confirmed upon finalization of the 2019 Syria Humanitarian Response Plan.
