ECOSOC
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the five active main organs of the United Nations.
ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues, and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations system. ECOSOC is responsible for coordinating the economic, social, and related work of about 20 UN agencies and commissions.
ECOSOCÂ advances the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. It aims to be the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.
