Coventry Climate Action Network (CovCAN)
India Foster of the University of Warwick created a Climate Action Network (CAN) in Coventry and, later, in other towns and cities.
This original network was very successful and a Facebook page was created which has over 300 followers.
However activity largely ceased when the project India was working on ended.
In 2016 UNA Coventry revived the Coventry Climate Action Network in response to the demands of students who were taking part in the Student Strike for Climate for a central group to coordinate the activities of others such as eco-teams in schools.
We created the website CovCAN.uk and began calling regular meetings.
Over the following years levels of activity and participation fluctuated until it declined when Covid arrived. In 2021 monthly online meetings were organised but participation in these also dwindled.
In 2022 Friends of the Earth (FoE) West Midlands invited CovCAN to join a new network of local groups with other climate action groups into a new Local Action Group network.
This is discussed in the page Future of Coventry Climate Action Network.
